Why you wake up early when you drink a lot of alcohol.
When you drink alcohol, your body does not want the alcohol to be in your body so it tries to get rid of it quickly. A way to get rid of it is urination. Alcohol mixes with the water in your system so when it is getting rid of the alcohol, it also removes a lot of the water too.
So you get dehydrated and your body wakes you up to remind to you to hydrate your body. When you are going to sleep after a night of drinking, get a big glass of water and put it on your night stand so when you wake up, the water is right there.
A way to avoid waking up early is drinking water while you are drinking alcohol. After every shot or beer you drink, drink a cup of water.

the only problem with this, and I understand this is anecdotal, but myself and everyone I've consulted on the issue (which is a decent sample considering it's a big 10 public university) wakes up much later than they would if they hadn't drank alcohol...
ReplyDelete^^You didn't consult me. On the (rare) occasion that I drink, I usually only sleep 4-5 hours.
ReplyDeleteOr scotch and wawa
ReplyDeletei used to sleep all day after a night of drinking when i was in college, but now that i am in my late twenties i find myself waking up early. it might be something that changes as you get older....
ReplyDeleteYou wake up early because you have to urinate.
ReplyDeleteAfter a night of drinking and 3-4 hours' sleep you are supposed to be so tired that after urinating you would go right back to sleep (and go on sleeping the whole day, more or less, even with little breaks as above).
ReplyDeleteAnd this just does not happen – or rather, agreeing with Escada82, I would say tihs does not happen ANY MORE to SOME of us as we get older.
I weak up after few hours' sleep and do not feel sleepy and cannot fall asleep any more, even though I realise I am tired physically. And I drink a lot of water, during drinking alcoholics and before going to sleep as well. So no idea why I am waking up early....
The one thing I really can't stand drinking is plain water. Alcohol is second so I settle for fruit juice.
ReplyDeleteAnother effect of alcohol is that it puts us directly into deep sleep and misses the REM stage of sleep. We normally have 5-7 cycles of REM sleep, and with alcohol we only get 1-2 cycles, which make us feel hangover and exhausted when we wake up.
ReplyDeleteAlso, When you drink alcohol you heighten your blood sugar level, as you sleep, that level drops, once your body hits a certain level it will automatically wake you up.
ReplyDeletei cant take hangovers, i get so depressed and feel so ill. But social pressure is why i drink, along with the fact that once i start drinking i dont stop... im 28...
